Founded in 2007, Tianjin Chamber for Medical Devices Industry (TCMDI) is a social organization that qualifies as an independent legal entity. TCMDI is established voluntarily by organizations engaged in production and operations in relation to medical devices and registered at Tianjin Administration for Non-profit Organizations. TCMDI is committed to serving its members by overseeing and standardizing businesses across the industry, facilitating communications within the industry and cooperation and exchange worldwide, leading its members to attend international medical device exhibitions, safeguarding its members’ lawful rights and interests, and helping the government with its industrial administration. TCMDI today has 172 members, including most major medical device companies as well as many outstanding member companies with high technology and good reputation.

As one of Tianjin’s well-positioned legacy industries, the medical device industry has a total of over 450 medical device manufacturers city-wide, 97% of which are private. Among these manufacturers, more than 130 are engaged in production of Class I medical devices, while over 320 are engaged in Class II and Class III medical devices. Over 60 manufacturers among them are in export business with an annual output of over RMB20 billion.

Tianjin’s medical device industry has a great variety of medical products that meet various specifications and fit into 12 general categories, including orthopedic instruments, ophthalmological instruments, hospital equipment, emergency equipment, image documentation equipment/endoscope, injection therapy/interventional therapy, in-vitro diagnostic reagents, surgical instruments, telemedicine/household medical products, rehabilitation equipment, disposable medical consumables and medical training equipment.
